Happy 29th Anniversary & Memorial Day from Japan and MN

Kon nichi wa
Just got a Happy 29th Anniversary phone call from CJ and he will be out looking at apartments/houses later today "5/26/08 in Japan" for us. He sent a few pics from Yokohama Harbor area and one near Graco Japan. He found a little slice of paradise in the early am,when he came upon a bike path which goes from the train station past his work. Cool ...maybe we will get to take our bikes with us overseas and to keep up with our biking adventures? I think he said the path goes for about 40 miles. Awesome!
It has been rainy there the last few days and he is enjoying lots of noodles when ducking into restaurants to get out of the elements. He said he saw quite a few women with kimonos on in the shopping district yesterday, but none with the skirt or shoe fashions like I showed you the other day :-) He did see these sumo guys on TV and so has gotten get a little T and A action while there. haha
I have been reading all day today while waiting to see if the big storms are going to pass us over here in MN. I am trying to make some sense of the harigana syllables and how to make the Japanese characters. It is very interesting and a bit challenging as well. I am having fun and getting more excited each day! I told CJ I am kind of liking the idea too, that I get to go over there for 2 years and I can NOT work, so I will just have to enjoying playing and exploring every day. Now that is a GREAT 29th Anniversary gift don't you think? :-)

Fashion Do's and Don'ts Japan Style

Well it is certainly going to be interesting to see how I fit into the fashion scene once I get over to Japan. At this point I am thinking I might be glad they don't make LARGE size shoes/clothes over there. My thought is I am going to be enough of a spectacle with my HEIGHT differental and then if I was to wear things such as these...well I am not so sure how those little people will react ? :-) Oh boy, I am gonna have LOTS of interesintg stories to share aren't I ?

Family Picnics with Harrimans and Slicks

A quick update to let you know this past weekend we were lucky to have gathered with most all of our family members at 2 different family picnics we had in MN and WI. Missed the DuBose family as niece Melissa was graduating from Luther College in Iowa. CONGRATS Melissa !!! Harriete and family had other plans as well and a few others had work or were sick. Hope your feeling better Dina.

Kalen and Michael came up for the weekend and so Mike got to meet all the apples on both sides of the family tree :-) He is on his way to Montana for a summer of traveling throughout that state doing Shakespeare. Kalen sadly went back alone to Chicago and will be busy working and going to massage school-graduating in Dec 2008.

We were happy to have Grambo join us and chat a bit with him by Skype camera/phone from Sweden. He is looking forward to coming back home and hopefully work in Duluth once he CJ and I return from our Europe trip in late June.

CJ is now in Japan checking out living arrangements and his new job. I am trying to get some things packed and continue to read travel books and keep my work caught up for Honduras on the web
More soon when CJ gets back with some new Japan information

Haiku Poetry by Karlita-san

Kon-nichiwa
Well, we got Kalen's stuff moved into her new apartment in Chicago and enjoyed a sunny day in downtown Chi Town checking out the sights and reflections in the bean. It was odd how all things Asian seemed to catch my eye.
CJ and I are back in MN now and soaking up as much Japanese stuff as we can, in between making Europe travel plans with Graham. This week I have been busy reading books on Stockholm, Dublin, London and Japan. I too,am now trying tolearn some Japanese and gave Haiku poetry a whirl--MN style. :-)

box elder bugs sun
the honk of two mating geese
green hostas poke up

samuri swords
flaming orange orioles
flourescent green buds

:-( Missed photo through window of the oriole flitting about out on back deck as we were watching Tom Cruise as the Last Samuri and Silk.
Hope all is well with everyone and your enjoying spring weather where ever you are
